A robot vacuum cleans on a schedule and drives itself back to its dock, and most now mop as well. Choose by three things: your floors (if it mops, does it lift the pads before carpet?), how much emptying and pad washing you want to do yourself, and whether it fits under your beds and sofas.

4 quick questions, then only the robots that fit.
Robot vacuum and mop · 25,000Pa suction · 10.5mm mop lift · 80°C hot-water mop washing
Multi-function station · 110-minute battery · WIN-SLAM 4.0
The entry point into a Roomba that empties itself. It vacuums and mops in one pass at 15,000 Pa, keeps the pad off rugs with No Mop Zones you set in the app, and tips the dust into a sealed bag you change about four times a year.
Robot vacuum and mop · 13,000Pa suction · Heated self-washing roller mop · AutoWash dock
The Roomba where the dock does the unpleasant part. It empties the bin, then washes the mop pads and dries them with heat, while the DualClean pads push out 18% closer to the skirting boards than a fixed pad reaches.
20,000Pa · roller mop lifts up to 15mm for carpet · 24-month Roborock Australia warranty
Suction, height and warranty are the maker's own figures. Suction is a peak figure in pascals (Pa) and makers measure it their own way, so treat it as a rough guide, not a ranking.

Nothing in the list fits every choice. Try one step down, or ask the Bot Finder.
Height is the robot's own height; leave a little clearance under furniture. "Not stated" means the maker's Australian site did not give the figure where we checked. Our warranty guide has each brand's terms.
Start with your floors, not the suction figure. A house with tiles through the living areas, floorboards in the hall and carpet in the bedrooms needs a robot that copes with the change between them, and if it mops, one that lifts or leaves its mop pads before it reaches the carpet. Our carpet, tiles and floorboards guide goes through that floor by floor.
Then decide how much of the job you still want to do. A self-emptying dock means you empty a bag in the dock instead of the robot's bin after each run. A dock that also washes the mop pads takes over the chore most people end up skipping.
Pets change the brief. Long hair wraps around brushes, and a dog that has accidents needs a robot that recognises them and steers around. Our pet hair guide compares the picks for that job.
In a two-storey home you'll be carrying the robot up the stairs or buying one for each level. Our stairs and multi-level guide weighs up both.
Check the warranty last, and check who gives it. Terms differ by brand, and some apply only to machines bought from the maker or its authorised sellers. Our warranty guide lists each brand's Australian terms.
Not sure where to start? Our best robot vacuum and mop guide matches eight picks to the kind of home each one suits.
There isn't one best for every home. It comes down to your floors, whether you want it to mop, pets, and how much emptying you'll put up with. Our best robot vacuum and mop guide compares eight models and says which home each one suits.
If your floors are mostly clear and you'd run it most days, yes. It keeps on top of dust, crumbs and hair between proper cleans. If the floor is covered in cords, toys and rugs with tassels, you'll spend more time rescuing it than it saves you.
You still empty something, either the robot's bin or the dock's bag, and you still wash or replace mop pads and filters. A robot cleans one floor at a time, it can get caught on cords and thick rugs, and the stairs themselves still need a hand vacuum.
Makers publish a warranty rather than a lifespan, and the Australian terms differ by brand and sometimes by model. Our warranty guide sets them out. Brushes, filters, mop pads and dock bags are the parts you'll keep replacing along the way.
Most will vacuum carpet. The catch on a vacuum-and-mop model is the mop: check whether it lifts its pads, or leaves them at the dock, before it gets to the carpet. Our carpet, tiles and floorboards guide compares how each pick handles it.
Some handle it far better than others. Look for a brush that resists tangling, a dock that empties itself, and, if your dog has accidents, obstacle avoidance that recognises them. Our pet hair guide compares the picks for that job.
