Description

Flashforge’s Adventurer 5M, sold under the model code AD5M, is the cheapest machine in this category that still prints quickly and levels itself. It’s the one to look at if the Bambu price is more than you want to spend on a first printer.

  • 220 x 220 x 220mm build volume: A little smaller than the 256mm cube on the Bambu machines, and bigger than the A1 mini.
  • 600 mm/s maximum travel speed, 20,000 mm/s² acceleration: Flashforge’s figures, and the same headline numbers as printers costing a good deal more.
  • 280°C nozzle, 100°C bed: A 0.4mm nozzle is fitted, with a 0.6mm option.
  • PLA and PETG on the 0.4mm nozzle: TPU, PLA-CF and PETG-CF need the 0.6mm.
  • Quick-detach nozzle: Flashforge don’t publish a changeover time, but it’s designed to come out without tools.
  • Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB: 363 x 376 x 413mm excluding the screen and spool holder. Flashforge don’t publish a weight.

Worth knowing before you buy: it’s an open frame. Flashforge sell an enclosure kit separately and describe ABS and ASA as possible but not recommended without modifications, which is a polite way of saying don’t plan on it. On the other hand it takes standard 1.75mm filament from any brand, which is worth more than it sounds if you’d rather not be tied to one supplier’s spools.
